Bass Fishing

How'd you like to "hook" this one?

She asked simply for a bass fishing cake for her Dad. Left the design up to me....so after searching for ideas, I found a cake that had a fish coming out of it and knew that I had to make one of my own!

The fish is made of rice krispie treats, covered in fondant and hand painted. I added his tail at the base of the cake. Simple, yet fun.

Whew....what a busy Saturday! (or really late Friday night!)

Somewhere Over the Rainbow!

We're off to see the wizard....... Oh....my.....goodness......DID I have FUN with this cake! How invigorating to get a theme that seems so removed from the current trends of cartoon characters! Luckily I was trusted to make my own decisions about design. (Gotta love that!) I started with a stacked whimsy cake all green, added the yellow brick road (fondant) and then went to the Emerald City. The ruby slippers are colored chocolate that is covered with edible glitter. The rainbow and Emerald City are also chocolate. My melted witch, complete with hat and broom are chocolate and fondant. I incorporated the poppies and the mean apple trees. If I had more room, I would have kept on and on!
Not to boast.....but I LOVE this cake!

Cub Scout Cupcakes

Blue and Gold Banquet Treats The boys had their first "Blue and Gold" Banquet for scouts today. Benjamin's den performed a skit and all the boys received their progress beads, badges and patches. I missed the first part of the banquet because I was delivering a cake.....but was able to see the end. Scouts can be a very rewarding program for boys and our boys seem to enjoy it.

Teacher of the Year!

Congratulations to Teacher of the Year! This is a celebration cake for the Teacher of the Year at the boys' school. I thought I would incorporate the "typical" teacher things in the design.
It is a White Almond Sour Cream cake with buttercream icing. The stars are made of fondant and the rulers are made from colored chocolate - with edible marker numbers. There is also a tiny fondant apple sitting at the base. All other embellishments are done with buttercream icing.

I Just Called to Say Happy Birthday!

A pretty pink cell phone for a birthday girl! She wanted a contact list with all her friends that were coming to the slumber party.
The list and button grid were created with edible markers on an edible frosting sheet and then adhered to the cake with buttercream icing. The icing sheet then "melts" into buttercream and is easily cut with the rest of the cake.

Pastel Baby Shower

Image of baby shower napkin.
I had a request for a baby shower cake to match the paper napkins. Pastel polka dots with a cute little baby bassinet. I found some great scrapbook paper for the cakeboard and matching ribbon for the edge of the board.

Pastel buttercream polka dots and a hand drawn multi color chocolate transfer to copy the napkins.

Pink and Green!

This is the cake I made for my youngest son's teacher. It is her birthday and she likes the colors pink and green. I found this great scrapbook paper and decided to design the cake to match it.
I covered a foam board with the paper and then covered that with clear contact paper. The most fun/challenging thing about this cake is making the icing colors to match as closely as possible to the paper and then getting the lines to match up and be straight.
She was excited to receive it and my son was beaming with pride as he handed the cake to her.
Thanks for looking!
