Kessler ~ Ray Wedding

What a beautiful location to be married. This is the Westin Savannah. It is located on the Savannah river and you can actually take a ferry and cross the river to get to River Street for a great tour of historic Savannah.

Here they have the chairs set up in the garden area for the wedding. You can see the river in the background. Some nice boats and a bit of River Street also. Thankfully the weather was very cooperative today. We have been having lots of rain, but not a drop today and although it was quite warm...the wedding was at 7pm...perfect temperature!

Here is the Bride's dress.
(Just a close up because I wanted to see the pattern in the bodice)

This is my sugar translation of that beautiful pattern.

Want to see more?

I made a couple dozen cupcakes to ensure enough servings for all guests.

I used those beautiful cupcake wrappers again.

Tied each with a bow.

Congratulations Ansley and Jason!

The End for UGA?!?

Okay, okay, calm down everyone....I know you have been sitting on the edge of your computer chairs just waiting to find out what has happened to our "sweet" little sugar Dawg!
(I'm calling him ours, because I feel we all have come to love him! ;)
WATCH
OUT
PUPPY!

The Groom is a Florida Gator fan.

Suspense is over....

Ouch! That's gotta hurt....good thing he's made out of gumpaste ~ phew!

I can speak freely and make a cake like this because I am not from Georgia....but let me tell you, there have been several Georgia fans that were NOT happy to hear of this cake. Georgia fans are a serious group. There is even a restaurant called "The Dawg House" and they serve lots of sports bar type food.....bet you can guess what is on their menu that might be a BIT out of the ordinary.....alligator. You too can be a "Gator Hater" and eat your enemy at "The Dawg House".

So gentlemen...the gauntlet has been thrown down, a line has been drawn in the sweet nilla wafer sand....any Georgia fan Grooms out there looking for justice?

Give me a call, I'm sure we can work out a plan!

Dawg!

Okay, I'm sure you don't expect to see a picture of a "real" dog on my blog!
However I have a wedding and grooms cake for this weekend and the Groom has made a "special" request.
You know we are here in Savannah GEORGIA....mmmmkay.

University of Georgia's mascot is an English Bulldog named UGA........mmmmmkay.

This is actually UGA VII
(there are always successors in the mascot game)

The face only a mother could love.

Well that............... and maybe a few thousand or so Georgia fans.

I wanted to show you my "sugar" dawg before......before.....well, you'll see...

Cute face

Nice little puppy just minding his own business....if only he knew....the Groom isn't from Georgia!

Stay tuned.....dun dun dun....

Austin's Baseball Cake

This is Austin's birthday cake.
He plays for the Bobcats, he is number 22, and he is turning 10 years old.
His mom wanted him to have a 3D baseball cake...isn't she nice?
These are the cookie favors that also went to his party.
These cookies are covered in fondant. The fondant gave a great "leather" effect on these cookies!
We have had constant rain for about a week and I was sure that royal icing wouldn't dry properly with all the humidity. So I went with the fondant instead....so glad I did they turned out great!
Here's the feedback I got from "Mom"
We LOVED the cake. The cookies were great too! Austin was amazed at the baseball on top of the cake. I will definitely think of you when we have a special occasion.
Have a wonderful summer! ~Ginger
Happy Birthday Austin!

"Sporty" Graduation

I think South Effingham High School will be missing Matt and Sally from the Baseball and Softball teams! I love it when people share their celebrations with each other.
Congratulations Matt and Sally!

Graduation Celebration

Yah! You graduated! What better way to celebrate than with a cake?
This has a chocolate mortarboard and a hand rolled fondant "diploma". Since these graduates had attented different schools, I went with a more general celebration theme rather than include school colors or mascots.
These guys have made a great accomplishment! Congratulations Nolan and Caleb!

Pink Graduation Cuppies!

What a yummy way to celebrate your High School Graduation.

These cupcakes are triple chocolate cake with light pink buttercream icing swirls and are adorned with chocolate mortarboards and hand made fondant "diplomas".

South Effingham High School's color is maroon, but I didn't figure that people want to walk away with a mouth full of dark red icing....so I went with a light pink and accented the mortarboards and diplomas with maroon tassels and ribbons.
(Don't you just love these cute little brioche cups instead of the standard muffin wrapper. Adds a nice little flair and shape to the cupcake.)
Here is the great feedback I got from the Mom ~

"Karen,
Kimber loved her pink and chocolate graduation cupcakes. We ate at Longhorns after graduation and everyone in the restaurant had to stop and look, we gave the leftovers and your web site info to the employees. They loved the way they looked and loved the taste even more.
Thanks Kim J."

Making people happy is a wonderful side effect of baking good stuff.

Made to Order for Caitlyn

This is a good story. I received an email from Caitlyn, she lives in my neighborhood, asking for a birthday cake. Caitlyn is turning 12 so I replied back to her and asked her to have her Mom call me to work out the details. Caitlyn's Mom called the next day and had a list of the "requirements" for Caitlyn's cake. She said that Caitlyn had been "camping out" on my website for several days and she had come up with a list of what she wanted (did I mention she's 12?!).
Triple Chocolate Cake
Cream Cheese Icing
Frosted in pink ~ light pink ~ like pink lemonade!
Lime Green Stripes
Cool Light Blue writing So I had this scrapbooking page that really fit the bill according to Caitlyn's request so I took her instructions and ran with it. When I took the cake over to her house she was waiting in the driveway....one look and......"I LOVE IT!"
Something I love to hear!
I think the world needs to brace itself for a new cake designer!
Happy 12th Birthday, I hope you had a great party Caitlyn!

Summer Fun Cupcakes

Summer is almost here....at least in Georgia we are already having summer weather!
These cupcakes went to a picnic today!
When the summer sun starts beating down....
grab your flip flops 'cause the sand gets HOT.....
and a cold ice cream....
and head for the shade of a nice palmetto tree!
Ahhhh, now that sounds like a "sweet" summer day!

Georgia Tech Graduation

I think it is interesting to know the story behind a school's mascot.

The Georgia Institute of Technology is located in the heart of Atlanta. I have been to Atlanta once, but have not been to the campus. So I don't have any first hand knowledge of GT. However,I will say that since moving to Georgia almost two years ago, that they do LOVE their insects here....I mean you HAVE to.....they are EVERYWHERE!

So without further delay I give you the story of the origin of GT's Yellow Jacket mascot.

(courtesy of Wikipedia)
The term Yellow Jacket or Yellowjacket has been used to refer to students and the various sports teams as early as the 1890's. Fans of Georgia Tech would often wear yellow jackets to sporting events in support of the early Georgia Tech teams. The early football teams, lacking gold fabric for jerseys, wore yellow jerseys. John Heisman told the Atlanta Constitution that he wanted his teams to be referred to as the Yellow Jackets in October 1905. In November 1906, The Atlanta Journal portrayed a University of Georgia football player being attacked by a yellowjacket with the words "Somebody's about to get stung" as the caption. This was the first time that the Georgia Tech sports teams were referred to as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in print.
Isn't it fun to see the progression of the little bugger?

Go Yellow Jackets!

Congratulations on your International Affairs Degree Brian!

Graduation Time!

Graduation season is in the air!
Armstrong Atlantic State University located here in Savannah has just graduated a beautiful young nursing student. The compass point is their school logo.

Maroon and Gold are good colors.

Nurses need band aids and medicine to make patients feel better.

A "sweet" stethoscope helps her to hear hearts beating!
Congratulations Lauren!

Sweet Pea Baby Shower

Aren't these cute baby shower invitations? "Sweet Pea" party theme and a mint green nursery ....

Viola!

So much fun to create cakes for nice people!

Congratulations Amanda and John!

Appreciate the Teachers!

What is sweeter than a "Lime in the Coconut" cupcake?
THREE "Lime in the Coconut" Cupcakes!
(I did make more than three!)
This week is National Teacher Appreciation week and our school's PTO hosted a luncheon for all the teachers and staff. They supplied the main course and then parents supplied the side dishes and desserts.
Perfect timing for me to try a new recipe that I saw on the Food Network!
"Put the Lime in the Coconut" was one of the winning recipes on their new show Ultimate Recipe Showdown. I love coconut and to add a tropical citrus flavor with lime sounded absolutely scrumptious. If you want the recipe check here.
The cupcake itself is a coconut cake with a sweet lime glaze to coat the cooling cupcake.
Then you add coconut milk (and I added some lime juice) to a delicious cream cheese icing.
Yummy!
I had these beautiful cupcake liners that I bought knowing I would use them for something special. I added an additional liner after baking and then tied a light green ribbon around for a nice presentation.
I thank ALL the teachers for what they do to help grow our nation's children into great future leaders. But I especially thank those that are touching my children's lives on a daily basis.
I APPRECIATE all you do!
