Put the Lime in the Coconut!

This was a totally fun cake to make! I made this recipe last year in cupcake form for our teacher appreciation luncheon at school. So here is the full out cake!

It is a coconut cake with a lime glaze and coconut cream cheese icing! Man this thing is heavy to lift....but so worth the taste! The icing is delicious, but it isn't very "decorator friendly". And the cake theme needed to include zebra stripes and margaritas.

So I made a chocolate plaque with zebra stripes! Then I made a margarita glass and the birthday message from lime green chocolate. I think the colors look so good together!

Check out the margarita......I even rimmed the glass in sparkling sugar!
Hope your birthday was great Ashlie!

Dirt Bike Rider

Harrison is turning 10 and he wants a dirt bike for his birthday. (I have it on good authority that he will get one.) He also gets a dirt bike themed cake!

This cake is 100% edible....I like that quality in a cake....hee hee.I made the detailed dirt bike and the silhouette riders using chocolate. I covered the cake in light blue buttercream and then added chocolate buttercream hills with some cookie dirt for even more texture.

I like this rider....he looks like a daredevil!

I think this guy is picking up speed for a BIG hill!
Hope your birthday is fabulous Harrison....don't forget to wear your helmet!

Benjamin's Chowder Birthday

My "baby" turned nine this month! Where does the time go????

Every birthday we talk about what theme he wants his cake to be and usually it revolves around the things that he is most interested in at the time. Star Wars, dogs, legos, dogs.......(he likes dogs) but this year we came up Chowder.

If you don't watch Cartoon Network then you probably won't know who Chowder is. I have to admit the first time I saw the characters and the crazy setting, I told my kids they couldn't watch it. Then I actually sat down and watched an episode with them and it is quite funny! Chowder is a "boy" that lives in Marzipan City and is learning to be a chef from Mung Daal. All the characters in Marzipan City have a food name and all the food they prepare has a real food name, but altered to be silly. You just have to watch to get the food humor. That's probably why I like it, because it is centered around the kitchen but it is much more than that. At least you can get a good laugh!
So come on in cause somethings always cooking yeah!

This is the logo for the show.

Here is a picture of Schnitzel, Mung Daal, Chowder and Truffles in Marzipan City.
Here's my take on a Chowder cake....
this is Chowder....

This is Mung Daal, he is the chef that is teaching Chowder how to cook.
This is Truffles, she is married to Mung and runs the front operation of the business.
This is Schnitzel....all he says is "rata rata" in different intonations. He's the help around the kitchen.
This is Pannini, she's in love with Chowder and wants to be his girlfriend.

And this is my baby with his 9th birthday cake!
Love you buddy!

CPA-2010

A surprise party for passing your CPA exam! What great friends!
And to get a themed cake......how lucky indeed!

She wanted a triple chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream icing.
I wanted it to look realistic as possible so I made the buttons from white chocolate in a mold I found at ACMoore.

I added the (modeling chocolate)paper roll and a screen read out that looked like the numbers you see on an adding machine.
I named it the CPA-2010~ hee hee

Congratulations Sarah!

Harley Daddy ....vroom vroom!

This is a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing.

The logo is made from chocolate.

Cupcake Cookies!

My youngest just turned nine!
He wanted to take cookies to his class lunch to celebrate. I had this new cutter that I hadn't had a chance to use and he was excited to bring cookies that looked like cupcakes!

I used my favorite go to recipe for almond vanilla sugar cookies, but I tried a new recipe for icing this time. I have been following Cookie Crazie and her BEAUTIFUL designs. I thought I would give her icing a try. It is definitely more flavorful than the Wilton royal icing recipe I usually use and because it contains corn syrup the final design has a shine to it! I used a creme bouquet flavor in the icing and it was a bit overwhelming in flavor.....so I might use it again, but just a little less....or stick with straight vanilla.

The birthday cake theme is Chowder from Cartoon Network. Stay tuned for pics of the cake.
Happy Birthday Baby!

It's All About You.... Cupcake

I know I've said it before....but I love getting requests with unique themes. I've never seen this partyware before and was very glad when I was given free license to interpret it into the cake!
I love the stripes.... I love the cupcake......and the colors are great!

Happy 2nd Birthday Anna Kate!
It's all about you....cupcake!

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Who's the leader of the band that's made for you and me?
M

M...O...U...S...E!

The original Mickey Mouse Club was airing before my time. However when I was a kid we did get reruns because I definitely know the Mickey Mouse song, and who doesn't know Annette Funicello!
Anyway, my kids are a little too old for daytime Disney programming, so I had to do some research when I received a request for a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse First Birthday Themed cake.
The boys and I actually watched a couple of episodes on disney.com. It is a great preschool learning program....and even though mine are a bit past that....they enjoyed watching and they even shouted out answers to Mickey! Hee Hee!
So if you haven't had the opportunity to view the new and improved Mickey Mouse Clubhouse....this is what it looks like!

Of course the same cast of characters are there each day!

Minnie and Mickey

Pluto

Goofy

Daisy and Donald

And for this birthday the guest of honor....

Avery!

Hope you had the best Meeska, Mooska, Mickey Mouse Happy 1st Birthday Avery!
(This cake is 100% edible, all characters are made from chocolate!)

Here is the feedback from Avery's Mom~

Wow..... the cake was truly beautiful! Thank you SO much, we really couldn't have asked for a better cake :) Avery also enjoyed her smash cake very much as you can see! I will definitely recommend you to everyone I know and will use your services again in the future.

Thanks!!!

SmackDown vs. RAW

Do you know who this is?

This was my first request for a WWE cake. I had to do some research on the internet and I found a lot of information regarding WWF v. WWF. The World Wildlife Foundation sued the World Wrestling Federation for the rights to the "WWF".

I understand you don't want people to infringe on your idea and confuse you with another.....but seriously....
who could confuse this....
with this.....Ultimately the original WWF won the battle and World Wrestling Federation became World Wrestling Entertainment. WWF to WWE.
Smackdown vs. RAW is a video game based on the WWE players. I found a few screen images and decided to make a wrestling ring.

I had limited time in this design, so the ring posts are cookie sticks and the ropes are curling ribbon. I know I could figure out a way to make this 100% edible......white chocolate covered pretzel rods and red licorice rope??? I guess we'll see if I get another request for a WWE cake!

P.S. The guy at the beginning is John Cena and he is the KING of wrestling....at least according to Chandler!

Hope your 12th birthday was Smackdown fantastic Chandler!
