40 and....watch out...the grim reaper is coming to your party!

So my neighbor is turning 40 and her hubby came over to see if I could make a cake.

Uh....YEAH!

First question I ask is "you want to be the guy who praises her for being "40 and fabulous"?  or the grim reaper is knocking on her door guy?"

Yeah, well he um, picked dark.
I hope you survive this dear neighbor!

Next thing, let me see what scrapbook paper I have around that is black.

Ooooo, this is really nice with the concentric circles....I can totally use this!

I covered the cake board with the paper and since I'm pretty sure most people don't want a mouthful of black icing....we'll go with black on white instead of white on black.
I think the contrast looks very nice from the board to the cake.

I'll add a cascade of black flowers too.

Chris really wanted the grim reaper, but I wanted to go cute and not scary..... I found a good clip art and created him in chocolate!

He is pointing, so perfect placement for announcing how old Tracy is!

Happy Birthday dear neighbor!

Youth is Dead, and buried....under this tombstone of cake!

I'm not really sure your youth "dies" when you turn 30.

But I guess it's always fun to make a jab at someone's age.....well only when they are OLDER than you!
(shhh...don't tell Michael I'm WAY older than he is!)

Michael's wife wanted to let him know how much she loves him on his 30th birthday, so she called me and this is what he got!

1981.....really?  You were seriously born in 1981?  Dude I was starting High School in 1981....I could have been your babysitter!

Why does time keep ticking???

Anchors Aweigh First Birthday

First Birthdays!  I just love them!

I get to make TWO cakes.  One for the party and one for the baby.

Anchors Aweigh is the theme for Jaxson's first birthday.  Here is what the partyware looks like.

I really took to the plate and cups with the anchor and crab, so........

Here is a side view....see the crab's eyes!

I know I say this everytime (and I guess the minute I stop saying it will be the day I stop decorating).  I had so much fun creating this cake!

Tinkerbell's Party Dress

Doll cakes.....who doesn't remember having a doll cake when they were a kid?
(Well maybe a few guys out there, but I'm sure they were AT a party that had a doll cake at some point in time!)

So much fun...I can eat this AND I get a toy when it's all said and done.....SIGN ME UP MOM!

Tinkerbell is one of the new "Disney Princesses" so I wanted to give her a beautiful party dress to wear!

I got the tinkerbell doll at one of those large discount chain stores...I'm sure you know one of those.
All parts of her that are inside the cake are safely covered in saran wrap.

She is iced in buttercream with a fondant bodice and flowing train of petals/leaves down the back.

Purple and green is such a lovely combination for this party dress!

Her wings came with the doll....believe me I would love to figure out a way to make edible see through wings for next time!
Of course I saved her clothes and packaged them in a cute little cupcake box for the birthday girl to dress her up after the party!

Minnie Mouse goes Topsy Turvy!

Topsy turvy, mad hatter, wonky....
whatever name you use....
it makes a great cake statement at your party!

Nothing better than having your cake be the centerpiece at your party so you don't have to create an additional decoration for the table.

Brooklyn had a Minnie Mouse theme for her 2nd birthday and this is the cake for the table!

You should have seen all the minnie inspired decorations and treats they had!  Wish I had a picture to share with you!

Buttercream iced with fondant and chocolate decorations!
And I think you'll find a coordinating ribbon on the edge of your cake board really finishes the cake nicely!

Have a great day!
