Tie Dye Disco

How fast our kids are growing up! This is the third cake I've made for Emma. the first year was Basketball and Daisies, last year was The Wizard of Oz.

This year...her 10th birthday she is a "groovy" kind of girl!

This plate was the inspiration for the cake design. (I told you Tie Dye was coming back into fashion!)

I used piping gel and corn syrup to create a "paint". And believe it or not, this cake is covered in buttercream and I was able to paint the colors right on without a problem! (I was worried the brush might "tear up" the smooth finish, but it didn't harm it at all! Yeah!)

I made the flowers, peace signs and disco dancers out of chocolate.

Happy 10th birthday Emma!

    1. I mixed piping gel and corn syrup so it would be "runnier" and easier to paint on. I started in the middle of the cake with the first color. I used a "fan" brush to help get the great brush stroke look. You need to have "space between" the colors because brushing the colors over/into the next color is what gives the great tye die effect. Best of luck!
