Roller Disco Party

Flashback!

Roller Skates!  Wow, how many years since you've seen a pair of roller skates, roller blades maybe, but skates!?

Disco!  Complete with Saturday Night Fever dancers and a glitter ball for flashing lights!

Tie Dye!  What 70's themed birthday would be complete without some of the rainbow swirls!?

This is a topsy turvy style cake, iced in buttercream.
Bottom tier is buttercream, handpainted for tie dye effect.
Middle tier has chocolate dancers.
Top tier is RKT covered in fondant, not cake.

This was a fun challenge!

Monogram Bridal Shower

Wedding season is in full swing, so of course there will be SHOWERS!

Here was a fun request for cupcakes for the girls!  (Easy to serve, and especially if you have your even as an open house....people aren't waiting around for someone to cut the cake!)

Hot pink and lime green were the color requests.

Bride's new Last Initial "B"

Cupcakes and Cookies!

These cupcakes have a buttercream swirl and a fondant topper with buttercream initials.

Almond sugar cookies with glaze!  YUM!

Bachelorette Party or G.N.O.

At first the title of this post was just Bachelorette Party.....and then I thought better of it.

Some might expect to see a "different" kind of cake....wink wink....if you know what I mean.
(And if you don't, just pretend I didn't say anything)

ANYWAY..... the theme for the bride's last Girl's Night Out, was high heels and martini's!

Of course hot pink and black are ALL the rage also!

But when you are out with your besties, you don't want to have to sit down with a plate and fork!

Cupcakes to the rescue!

This theme worked really well with cupcakes.  I alternated high heels and martini's made from chocolate as edible cupcake toppers.
(If you've been reading me for awhile, you know putting something NON-EDIBLE on a cake is LAST resort for me!)

Thanks for looking!

Bridesmaid's Luncheon Cake

The occasion:  A Bridesmaid's Luncheon - CHECK

The Theme: Hot Pink and Black to match the invitation - CHECK

Style: Please use Wedding Cake Pulls - CHE....wait....WHAT???

I thought I had been in the south long enough to have heard of all traditions surrounding cake (groom's cakes at weddings, smash cakes for first birthdays).

But this time I learned something NEW!

Have you heard of these?

Cake Pulls? (Absolutely nothing like a tractor pull!)

Cake Charms?  (Like non-edible fortunes in cake!)

Intriguing to say the least....  if you want to google it....check here for the background story!

But here is the gist (excerpt from Jewelry by Rhonda):

The custom of "ribbon pulling" dates back to time of  Queen Victoria. A bride would hide small charms (distinctive symbols of romance, love, friendship, memorials, etc.) attached to satin ribbons within the icing of her wedding cake. The bride would have each of her bridesmaids (as well as other important women in her life) pull a charm from the cake before it was cut. It was believed each charm had a special meaning, a bit of advice, or would foretell the future in luck, romance, fortune, etc.

Here are the charms that went into (or should I say under) this cake.

It's really kind of a fun idea.  Bride gives gifts to bridemaids as a thank you, and this little charm has a special meaning or fortune attached to it.

Wouldn't it be fun to buy each maid a charm bracelet and have this be her first charm!?
(I added the hot pink ribbons to match the cake theme, they came with a cream colored ribbon)

Once I got a look at the invitation, I knew I wanted to do the damask pattern with a cake stencil, but I knew ribbons would be in the way.  So I put the charms UNDERNEATH the cake, so as not to interfere with the decorating!

Here is the cake with a copy of the invitation and a top view of the cake also!

This side view shows how the ribbons are all around the cake.

Everyone loved the cake.

The only thing I wonder about.....

Does each bridesmaid pick a ribbon and they all pull at the same time, or just one person pulling in order of standing as the wedding party?

Anyone have a good story/tradition to share?

Oh So Sweet Ladybug First Birthday

I know I've talked about how many amazing cake/sugar artists are out there in the world.

Well if I had to pick a top 5 .....Sylvia Rivas aka Chocolate Moose Cakes, is definitely on that list!  You can click here to see her photostream on flickr.

Her work is AMAZING!  The clean lines, the perfectly smooth buttercream, her wonderful artful eye for beauty!  (Okay, so I idolize her....go look and you will too!)

She has a beautiful lady bug cake that she did, and I used her cake for inspiration when I received an order for an Oh So Sweet Ladybug first birthday.  My client actually sent a picture of someone else's replication of Sylvia's cake for me to reference.  But I knew I had seen that cake done perfectly before so when I checked her photostream I had my real inspiration to work from.

These are the party supplies to be used for serving cake at the party and a sample of a party banner.

So here is my version of the Oh So Sweet Ladybug First Birthday theme!

Cake is iced in buttercream with fondant and chocolate accents.  Ladybug top is cake and RKT(rice krispie treat), covered in fondant....the only non-edible decoration are the antennae.

I thought you might enjoy the "360" view....  here is a side view

Here is some ladybug "bootay"

and here she is with Olivia's "smash cake".

I just LOVE first birthdays!

Pink Skull

Anna Grace's mom wasn't too sure about the fact that her daughter wanted a pirate party....
UNTIL they found this great partyware!

Pink Pirate Skulls!

So cute!

The things that jumped out at me:
Of course the pirate skull,
the black border with crossed bones,
and the quilted pattern with hearts on the plates.

Soooo.... I incorporated all those items and this is what the finished product looked like!

Cake is iced in buttercream with fondant stripes, and hand created chocolate skulls, names and number!

I love the color combination and how it all came together!

Thanks for looking!

40th Birthdays

40 is the new 30!

Right?
Please say yes....(cause I'm beginning the downslide toward the next decade.... :(

These girls wanted to get their mom a cake with a "Paris" theme and of course you have to go pink when you go parisian on a cake!

Aged to Perfection - Like a Fine Wine!

Such a perfect theme for a 40th!

We had to combine zebra stripes and wine!

Made sure to give Missy her own "wine label" to top the cake!

Welcome to the "new 30's" ladies!
